If you follow PC hardware prices, you’ve probably noticed something worrying: RAM, SSDs, and even GPUs are getting more expensive, and this trend is expected to continue into 2026. The main reason behind all this is one word: AI.
AI companies are building thousands of new data centers, and these centers need a huge amount of memory and storage. They use DRAM for fast memory, NAND for SSD storage, and HBM for high-performance AI chips. All these are made in the same factories that produce memory for our gaming PCs.
Because AI companies are buying so much, there simply isn’t enough left for the consumer market. And when supply is low and demand is high, prices go up.

We’re already seeing the effects:
RAM prices have jumped by up to 500% in 2025.
SSD prices have increased by around 100%.
Many popular RAM kits are now out of stock.
GPU makers like AMD and Nvidia are warning about higher GPU prices.
Even retailers and PC builders are reacting. Some Japanese stores have limited RAM purchases, and companies like CyberPowerPC have announced price increases starting December 2025.
Major manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix have already raised memory prices by 20–30%, and more hikes are expected. HDDs are also facing shortages because data centers are shifting to SSDs for faster storage.
The root cause is the rapid expansion of the AI industry. Companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Oracle are pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into new servers. Each server needs tons of memory, and this is putting extreme pressure on the global supply chain.
Some experts believe this situation could last 3–4 years. Unless the AI boom slows down or the industry increases production, we will continue to see high prices for RAM, SSDs, and GPUs throughout 2026.
For gamers, creators, and PC builders, one thing is clear:
If you’re planning a PC upgrade, it’s better to buy now rather than later. Prices may continue rising.
